Except that, in the freak cargo-drop accident (because how else would you end up stranded on a desert island, unhurt but alone with all you need to survive?), your laptop was damaged, limiting your internet access to only five blog subscriptions.
Which five blogs do you follow?
The scenario is absurd, yes, but the question stands: Which five blogs would you choose?
That's the question behind the Desert Island Blog Award. Never heard of the award before? That's because I, Lorene of just Lu, am its creator and this is its debut.
Here's how it works:
I bestow the Desert Island Blog Award upon the five blogs that I would choose to read if I were stranded, lonely but comfortable, well-supplied, and with plenty of strawberry limeade (my beverage of choice).
The author(s) of each of those blogs then passes the award on to the five blogs that they would choose in the above desert-island scenario.
And the authors of those five blogs in turn pass the award along... You get the idea.
Once each recipient selects their five Desert Island Blogs and passes the award along, they'll add the award ceremony post to this linky list so that we have a nice comprehensive list of all the blogs deemed desert-island worthy.
You can read the full Code of the The Desert Island Blog Award and see the linky list here.
A quick note: During the selection process, the judges (er... just me) selected from the blogs that I already subscribe to. Most of these blogs are craft blogs, so most of the blogs I'm awarding are craft blogs. The award can be passed to any kind of blog -- it takes all kinds to make a bloggy world!
So now... onto the big event... the inaugural Desert Island Blog Award Ceremony!
{drumroll please}
The five blogs I have chosen to read in my desert-island afflicted state are.... {you can stop drumming on your laptop now :)}
Housewife Eclectic: This may seem a bit biased since I post there myself once a week, but, bias aside, I enjoy reading everything that Debra writes. She posts a wonderfully eclectic (thus the name) mix of crafts, book reviews, recipes, and photo tips. And her Letters to My World segment is my favorite of all because I laugh every time and her letters keep me connected to the real world, even when I'm not on a desert island.
Twelve Crafts Till Christmas: Elizabeth, the brains behind the twelve crafts, is everything creative and original that I wish I could be. I've raved about her before, so I won't repeat all that. Suffice it to say that Elizabeth, aside from all her crafting and other creative talents, has a wonderful talent for making her readers feel like comfortable old friends, even if it's your first time visiting her blog. Especially on a desert island, it's good to have friends. :)
Leafy Treetop Spot: I only recently discovered the Leafy Treetop Spot, but I love everything that Tricia has there: great patterns and tutorials, yummy recipes, and a large collection of fantastically awesome quiet book pages. Her handmade collection of shirts (t and other) is a major source of envy at my house, especially her version of the Petal Tshirt (originally from Ruffles and Stuff). And, she's an awesome artist; just check out her fun animal prints in her etsy shop. In my desert-afflicted state, Tricia is a wonderful breath of fresh crafting air.
So You Think You're Crafty: This is where I get a little bit greedy... I mean, I'm on a desert island, with all the crafting supplies I could dream of. I need some large doses of inspiration! So You Think You're Crafty gives me more for my, er, money by showcasing ten of the blogosphere's best crafters in a ten-week competition. Missy, the competition coordinator, comes up with great weekly themes, and the crafters always come up with amazing ideas.
Real Mom Kitchen: I have a hard time making something yummy for myself for lunch, let alone weeks at a time on a desert island. When I'm browsing for a fun new recipe, Real Mom Kitchen is always where I end up. Laura of Real Mom Kitchen is just that: a real mom! Not a gourmet chef or "that mom." Her recipes are tasty and the ease-of-preparation is evidenced by the fact that I am always saying, "I can make that!" And I do. And it's delicious.
Congratulations to the recipients (grab a button below) and thank you all for attending this inaugural award ceremony. :)

oooh 5 blogs? I don't know if I could pick. Love the haircut and new header.
I agree with Brandy - it would be sooo hard to pick just 5 blogs. What a great idea, though!
Oh Lu, thanks so much for adding me to your list. I feel so honored. It is going to be hard to select my favorite 5, but I'll do my best. Thanks so much for your kind comments.
